Microblading, powder and combo: compare the result you want, not just the label

Seoul studios use several brow-PMU labels. Sunny Permanent Makeup in Hongdae currently lists microblading or nanoblading, ombre and combo options; Seoul Beauty Trip’s Jamsil listing separates hairstroke, powder and combo pricing. That is enough to show why a foreign visitor should not book by one keyword alone.

Send the studio a recent, makeup-free brow photo if requested and describe the finish you want in plain language: visible hair-like strokes, a softer shaded effect, or a combination. Ask the artist to tell you which menu item they are recommending and why. If you already have faded or discolored permanent makeup, disclose it before paying because correction or cover work may change the technique and price.

English booking routes you can verify now

English access is not only about what happens in the chair. You need to be able to confirm the design, price, cancellation rules and aftercare before the appointment.

Before you pay a deposit: ask these eight questions

1. Which exact technique are you recommending? Ask the studio to name the menu item rather than replying only with “microblading.”
2. What is the final price? Confirm whether tax, design consultation, numbing, aftercare products and any touch-up are included.
3. Is a touch-up included, optional or separately charged? A cheap initial session can become expensive if the normal follow-up is separate.
4. When can a touch-up be done? This matters more for travelers than locals. If you will have left Korea, ask whether remote follow-up is available and whether returning is necessary for the result you are being sold.
5. How do you handle previous permanent makeup? Send a clear brow photo before the appointment if you have old pigment, prior microblading or correction work.
6. What is the cancellation or deposit policy? Save it in writing. Do not rely on a verbal explanation after you have paid.
7. What hygiene and single-use practices do you follow? Ask how needles and disposable items are handled and what aftercare instructions you will receive.
8. What should I do if I have a health concern or reaction? The studio should not replace medical advice. If you have a condition, medication issue, allergy concern or unexpected reaction, ask an appropriate healthcare professional.

Safety questions matter because permanent makeup breaks the skin

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration describes permanent makeup as a form of tattooing and identifies risks including infection, allergic reactions, scarring-related problems and difficulty with removal. The FDA also notes that contaminated ink can cause infection even when an artist follows hygienic procedures. The FDA is not the Korean regulator; its guidance is useful here as general consumer-safety context, not as a statement about Korean licensing or legal requirements.

For a booking decision, keep the questions practical: Is the equipment handled hygienically? Are needles or other skin-penetrating items single-use where appropriate? What pigment is being used? What written aftercare will you receive? What should you do if you notice an unexpected reaction? Avoid a provider that dismisses basic safety questions or pressures you to pay before answering them.

How to fit a brow appointment into a Seoul trip

Do not assume that “single visit” means “no follow-up decision.” Sunny currently markets its international-client eyebrow service as a single visit with remote follow-up, while AMORJ advertises one-session results but also publishes a separately priced touch-up option. Those are provider-specific policies, not universal rules.

If your trip is short, tell the studio your arrival and departure dates before paying. Ask whether the proposed service normally expects an in-person touch-up, what happens if you cannot return, and how aftercare support works once you leave Korea. If you have an important event or photography session during the trip, ask the provider what visible post-procedure changes you should expect; do not guess from social-media before-and-after photos.

What commonly goes wrong

• Booking the cheapest headline price without comparing inclusions. Deposit, tax, correction and touch-up rules can change the real cost.
• Assuming every “microblading” menu produces the same finish. Technique naming differs among studios.
• Not disclosing old eyebrow pigment. Prior work can change what is feasible and how the provider prices the service.
• Waiting until the appointment to discuss English communication. Confirm the consultation and aftercare language before paying.
• Planning as if you can always return for a touch-up. Travelers should decide this before the first session.
• Treating provider marketing as medical evidence. Claims about healing, pain, pigment performance or suitability should not replace professional medical advice.
